“The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big”: Shubhman Gill

In Qualifier 2 of the ongoing IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans vs. Mumbai Indians, youngster Shubman Gill was in incredible form. Based on his innings, the 23-year-old scored 129 runs off 60 deliveries, and the reigning champions scored 233 runs in the first innings. The cricketer eventually managed to score his third century in his final four games of the lucrative league as he appeared unstoppable in the middle.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, was equally impressed by his knock and afterwards praised him on it. The 23-year-old was also praised by the former captain of India, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant, who posted an Instagram story with the hashtag ‘Classs babaa’ to praise Gill for his outstanding performance.

Mumbai’s batters tried their all during the chase, but despite being five-time winners, they ultimately lost the game by 62 runs. Despite looking fantastic in the middle, neither Suryakumar Yadav (61 runs off 38 deliveries) nor Tilak Varma (43 runs off 14 deliveries) could help MI reach their seventh final.

Notably, Shubman Gill was seen having an intense conversation with famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who is presently the coach of the Mumbai Indians, after the game. Gill was observed paying close attention to Sachin as the two engaged in conversation.

Gill won Player of the Match honors at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad thanks to his outstanding performance against MI. The cricketer admitted during the award ceremony that the three sixes he hit off Akash Madhwal in the 12th over actually gave him the drive to score a big one.

Gill talks during the post match Presentation

“For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That’s when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well,” said Gill.

“I am coming off a good international season as well. Had a good season last time as well. When I start well, I feel confident I can score well. From the last WI tour, I think I have shifted a gear, I got injured before the last IPL but I have been working on my game. I have worked on a few areas and made technical changes ahead of the NZ series after the T20I World Cup,” he added.
