IPL 2024 Points Table: Updated After Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru Match No. 58

Another thrilling match ended on the lap of the Himalayas. In the 58th match, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced each other at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The match has seen Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s brilliance and Punjab Kings’ heartfelt try. But Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered another thrilling victory of 60 runs. That exciting victory brought some exciting changes in the points table.

RCB’s Batting Excellence And PBKS’ Classy Effort:

In the first innings, Dharamsala witnessed a mix of emotions as Virat Kohli showcased glimpses of his vintage form but fell short of a century. RCB’s openers, Faf du Plessis and Will Jacks departed early, leaving them at 43/2. However, Rajat Patidar’s aggressive half-century and a quick cameo from Cameron Green bolstered their innings. Despite Kohli’s impressive 92-run knock, RCB posted 241 runs in 20 overs, setting a challenging target.

In response, Punjab Kings, led by skipper Sam Curran, opted to field first and made early breakthroughs. Vidhwath Kaverappa and Curran’s timely wickets halted RCB’s momentum, with Harshal Patel’s stellar bowling performance further restricting their score. Despite RCB’s efforts, Punjab Kings’ disciplined bowling unit limited their opponents to 241/7, setting the stage for an intriguing chase.

RCB’s Bowling Masterclass and PBKS Struggle:

In the second innings, Punjab Kings faced an early setback with the dismissal of Prabhsimran Singh, followed by Jonny Bairstow’s departure after a brisk start. Rilee Rossouw’s valiant half-century provided some hope, but the team struggled to maintain momentum. Despite contributions from Shashank Singh and Sam Curran, Punjab’s innings faltered, with Harshal Patel and Ashutosh Sharma falling cheaply. The RCB bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj, exerted pressure and restricted Punjab’s scoring opportunities, ultimately securing a convincing 60-run victory.

RCB’s bowlers displayed exceptional skill, with Swapnil Singh, Lockie Ferguson, and Karn Sharma taking crucial wickets at regular intervals. Siraj’s three wickets were instrumental in dismantling Punjab’s batting lineup, ensuring RCB’s dominance throughout the match. With a strong bowling performance, RCB emerged victorious, showcasing their prowess in defending the target set by their batters.

Changes in the Points Table:

After that big win of 60 runs, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is still standing in the seventh position. But that made a huge impact on their net run rate. On the other hand, Punjab Kings slipped into the ninth position of the points table after this defeat.
