Rashid Khan Expresses Frustration Over Wicket Tally in IPL 2024, Praises Shubman Gill’s Captaincy

Gujarat Titans‘ star spinner Rashid Khan has expressed disappointment with his performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Despite being known for his wicket-taking abilities, Rashid has only managed to take six wickets in six matches so far. He admitted that he is not happy with his wickets tally but is pleased to play “little” roles that contribute to his team’s success.

Rashid’s underwhelming season began with a wicketless performance in the opening game against the Mumbai Indians. While he managed to pick up two wickets against the Chennai Super Kings, he also conceded 49 runs, the most by any GT bowler. Since then, he has taken a wicket in each of the next four matches but has failed to make the impact he is known for.

Rashid Khan on his comeback

“The first three games, I struggled a bit coming after the surgery; it wasn’t easy to get back to my own rhythm,” Rashid said. “I am so happy in the last two to three games, I have played how my body allowed me to enjoy my game.”

The Afghanistan spinner attributed his struggle to regain his rhythm after undergoing surgery. However, he expressed optimism about his performance in the upcoming matches and vowed to take more wickets to help his team.

“I am not happy with the wickets tally, but I am happy to play little roles that help the team win,” Rashid said.

Rashid also had words of praise for his teammate Shubman Gill, who took over the captaincy from Hardik Pandya after his return to the Mumbai Indians. Rashid commended Gill’s leadership, stating that he has been leading from the front and delivering with the bat despite the added responsibility of captaincy.

Rashid Khan on Shubman Gill

“He has been great since Day 1,” Rashid said. “It is so good to see him; he is leading from the front. The way he has been delivering with the bat even though he has captaincy on his shoulders. He is someone who tries to do his best as well, doesn’t matter what the condition or situation is.”

Rashid praised Gill’s commitment to the team and his ability to perform under pressure. He also expressed confidence in the team’s abilities and is looking forward to their upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Despite facing some setbacks, Rashid believes that Gujarat Titans have performed well and played amazing cricket. The team is currently in sixth place with six points and a negative net run rate of 0.637.
