Lizaad Williams’ Costly First Over Breaks IPL 2024 Record, Surpasses Shamar Joseph

Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals are locking horns with each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Kolkata spectators witnessed an intense clash between these two teams. After being dominated by the KKR bowlers, Delhi Capitals started the second innings with a setback. Lizaad Williams sets an unwanted record, conceding the costliest first over of the Tata IPL 2024, surpassing Shamar Joseph’s previous mark.

Unwanted record by Lizaad Willians:

In the crucial encounter between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant’s decision to bat first didn’t yield the desired results as their batting lineup struggled to find momentum. However, the real setback came when Lizaad Williams took the ball to bowl the first over of KKR’s innings. Facing Phil Salt, Williams’ first delivery was dispatched to the boundary, setting an ominous tone for the over. The second ball yielded a single, but Williams’ woes continued as he bowled a no-ball on the third delivery, resulting in a leg bye for KKR.

The subsequent free hit compounded Williams’ troubles as he conceded a wide, granting KKR another opportunity to score freely. Salt capitalized on the free hit, smashing a six. The nightmare for Williams persisted in the following over as Salt found the boundary again, further denting Delhi’s hopes. By the end of the over, Williams had conceded 23 runs, marking it as the most expensive over in IPL 2024 and posing a daunting challenge for Delhi’s bowlers.

Lizaad Williams surpassed Shamar Joseph’s record for the most expensive over in IPL 2024. Joseph’s debut IPL over was marred by difficulties, as he bowled 10 balls, including consecutive wides and a no-ball. The over concluded with a six off a free hit, resulting in Joseph conceding 22 runs, a record broken by Williams.
