Michael Vaughan Sparks Speculation: Rohit Sharma to Join Chennai Super Kings Next Year?

Former cricketer Michael Vaughan has sparked speculation about Rohit Sharma‘s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), suggesting that the Mumbai Indians (MI) captain could potentially move to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next year. Vaughan’s comments came during an episode of the BeerBiceps podcast, where he discussed the possibility of Rohit joining CSK.

Vaughan’s speculation stems from the recent captaincy change at MI, where Hardik Pandya was appointed as the new captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. This decision was met with opposition from some MI fans, who expressed their support for Rohit as captain.

Michael Vaughan said

Vaughan discussed the possibility of Rohit joining CSK on the BeerBiceps podcast, saying, “Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai.”

Ranveer Allahbadia, the host of the podcast, expressed his concern about this potential move, stating, “That’d be heartbreaking, honestly. For MI fans, that’d be terrible. I wouldn’t mind him going to (Sunrisers) Hyderabad; he played for Deccan Chargers, so that would be romantic.”

Vaughan also shared his view on Rohit’s captaincy, stating, “I personally would’ve captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is big enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain. The sensible move would’ve been for Rohit to carry as MI captain with Hardik in mind for next year or 2.”

Rohit Sharma has been performing well in IPL 2024 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, scoring 156 runs in five matches at an impressive strike rate of 167.74. Despite a slow start, MI recently secured their first win of the season against the Delhi Capitals.
