IPL 2019, KXIP vs DC: Here’s the reason why Chris Gayle is not playing

Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals take on each other in the 13th match of IPL. The crowd at the PCA Stadium was anticipating fireworks from the big-hitting Chris Gayle. DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. It meant that KXIP was set to bat first and there was a huge cheer from the crowd.

But the thousands that turned up in the stadium were stunned when they found out that Chris Gayle wasn’t included in the playing XI of Kings XI. Instead of him, the hosts had gone in with Sam Curran. The English all-rounder walked out to bat alongside KL Rahul.

The reason why Gayle didn’t feature in the line-up is that he is reportedly injured. He has encountered a lat injury and has been rested as a precaution. The extent of his injury is unknown as of now. It remains to be seen whether he will play in the next game or not.

Another change in the XI was the removal of Andrew Tye who has proved to be expensive in the last few games. The Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman took his place in the side.

Kings XI have had a decent run in this edition so far. They began on a winning note against Rajasthan Royals. Then, they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders even after playing well. Mumbai Indians were found on the losing end in KXIP’s third game.

However, their campaign has not been short of controversies. Ravichandran Ashwin has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Whether it was his Mankad to dismiss Jos Buttler or the no-ball call when Mohammed Shami dismissed Andre Russell for not having enough fielders inside 30 yards, the KXIP skipper has remained in the center of news.
