Shubhman Gill hungry for more success; feels his job is far from over

Shubman Gill, the representative of India’s upcoming generation of world-beaters, is having a year to remember with the bat as his consistency in the current IPL 2023 season places him in select company. Despite leading his club to the competition’s final, the 23-year-old opener admitted after scoring his third IPL century that there was still much work to be done.

Shubman Gill led his team to their second consecutive IPL final with a masterclass in T20 batting against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians. The Gujarat batsman won the Orange Cap during his game-changing inning after surpassing Faf du Plessis‘s run total in the ongoing 16th edition of the event.

Even though Gill has been in excellent form with the bat, the batsman from Punjab feels unsatisfied. He admitted that the work is not yet over because he keeps considering repeating his exploits for the Indian squad in important competitions later this year, beginning with the WTC final matchup against Australia.

Shubhman Gill said

“It’s been great, and very fortunate, I thank the universe. But every time, like today, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Once IPL finishes, the World Test Championship start.

Once WTC is over, Asia Cup will be there. Once Asia Cup is over, you’ll be like ‘Oh, the World Cup is here’. So there is always something in my mind that I look forward to, and (feel) the job is not done yet. But it’s been a great year so far for me and I’m really fortunate and really happy for that,” Shubman Gill spoke to News18.

“It’s been a busy year for me, but I don’t really consider practicing and playing as much because that’s something that I’ve grown up with and that’s something I have been doing my whole life. It actually charges me up, but it’s been a busy year. It’s going to get busier with WTC and the World Cup coming this year and it’s going to be a really fun and exciting year for me,” he added.
