Rohit Sharma Registered Some New Records to His Name

The hitman, Rohit Sharma hit yet another century in World Cup 2019 and helped India to put a 300+ score. This was his fourth century of this edition and with the same as always, Rohit registered some new records to his name.

New Record by Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma became the only Indian and second batsman after Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara to score four centuries in a single World Cup. He has hit hundred in this tournament against South Africa, Pakistan, England, and Bangladesh so far. The way he is going can easily enhance this number.

Rohit Sharma now holds the record of second most number of centuries in World Cup history jointly with Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara. All of them have five centuries with Sachin Tendulkar leading the list with six tons. Interestingly this is Rohit’s only second Wolrd Cup which means he can easily surpass Sachin is list as well. The Indian opener took only 15 matches to score his five World Cup tons whereas Sachin recorded six in 45 matches. Sangakkara and Ponting took 37 and 46 matches respectively to create their records.

World Cup Knocks

His first World Cup century also came against Bangladesh in the World Cup 2015. The match saw India and Bangladesh playing second quarter-final of 2015 World Cup. Bangladesh was out of the tournament post the loss against India in the match in Melbourne. Today Rohit Sharma was in good touch from the beginning once put into bat by his captain Virat Kohli. Fortunately, he was dropped by Tamim Iqbal when he was on nine. Post that, he was in his usual momentum. Finally, he went for a 92-ball 104. Earlier he was dropped on 1 in the South Africa match and went on to add 122 not out to give a successful chase to India. The same thing was repeated against England when he was on 4 and he scored 102.
