New Zealand’s Test captain Tim Southee recently opened up about the team’s spin bowling attack and reflected on its ability to display a brilliant showdown.
Playing the longest format after 9 months
Captain Tim Southee and Co. will play the longest format of the game after 9 months and despite this setback, the skipper is sure of making a difference on the Bangladesh soil. The guys have a great desire for Test cricket. They say it is the pinnacle of the game. Whenever we play Test cricket, it is always special. We love and prioritize Test cricket,” said Southee on the eve of match day.
He further added “The start of the new cycle is exciting. It is a tough place to play Tests. Bangladesh is strong in these conditions. We played Tests back at the start of the year. The last cycle didn’t go as well as we planned. The guys involved in the first WTC cycle know how special it is to do well in this championship.”
Showing adaptability on Asian pitches
New Zealand’s ability to adapt itself on Asian pitches has been always outstanding, as compared to its struggling records on its own home ground. While stating that the team has adapted well to the subcontinent’s pitches and the fact that they have recently played World Cup on the Indian soil, Southee remarked “It is foreign conditions compared to New Zealand. Pace plays a big role in New Zealand. Spin historically plays a big role in this part of the world. Our spinners have done some great things in Tests. We are looking forward to them showcasing their skills.”
