Nitish Rana Targets T20 WC Spot with ‘600’ Run Season for KKR

Nitish Rana, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman, expressed his aspiration to earn a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place later this year in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). Rana emphasized his determination to break into the national team, showcasing his ambition to represent India on the global stage. With a clear goal in mind, he aims to impress selectors with his performances and secure his place in the prestigious tournament.

His Wish in IPL 2024:

In 2021, Nitish Rana had the opportunity to represent the Indian cricket team in two T20Is and an ODI against Sri Lanka at the RPS in Colombo. Unfortunately, he struggled to make an impact, failing to achieve double-digit scores in any of the matches, resulting in him losing his spot in the squad.

Despite this setback, Rana remains optimistic about his future prospects. He expressed confidence in his abilities, stating his aim to amass over 600 runs for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He said, “Everyone wants to play for the country and many players will have it in the back of their mind, but we have to stay in the present. I too want to get selected for the World T20 squad, but at this moment I am thinking only about the IPL. I believe I can get 600 runs in this tournament and I will be aiming for that.”

Nitish Rana’s IPL Career:

Nitish Rana embarked on his IPL journey in 2016 with the Mumbai Indians (MI) before joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2018 season. From 2017 to 2022, Rana consistently contributed with the bat, scoring in the 300s each season and notching up 2 to 3 half-centuries annually. However, in the previous season, he achieved a milestone by surpassing the 400-run mark for the first time.

During the IPL 2023 season, Rana showcased his batting prowess, accumulating 413 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 31.77 and a striking rate of 140.96. His notable performance included three half-centuries, reflecting his valuable contributions to the KKR team.

As KKR prepares to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23 at Eden Gardens, Rana faces a significant challenge, aiming to continue his consistent form and lead his team to victory in the upcoming season.
