Michael Vaughan Highlights Gaikwad’s Leadership Challenges with Dhoni’s Presence

The IPL 2024 has been spreading excitement since the beginning. Fans are enjoying the most exciting time of the year. In the last match, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns and CSK won the match dominatingly. Ruturaj Gaikwad has done an amazing captaincy job. Michael Vaughan suggests that Ruturaj Gaikwad faces a tough challenge leading Chennai Super Kings with the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni still in the dressing room.

Michael Vaughan on Ruturaj’s Captaincy:

At the beginning of the IPL 2024, the biggest surprise came from Chennai Super Kings. The franchise announced Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name as their captain. Initially experiencing success with a couple of victories, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy journey with CSK hit a bump with consecutive losses, although they managed to bounce back with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders. Michael Vaughan pointed out the challenges Gaikwad might face in leading the five-time champions, especially with the iconic Mahendra Singh Dhoni still an influential presence in the dressing room.

Vaughan said, “He has taken over from a God. This situation is like Sir Alex Ferguson is still in the dressing room when the new manager comes in. MS Dhoni is still there. It must be so hard. It is difficult to captain MS but I think it is MS who took that decision to step aside.”

Vaughan’s Advice to Ruturaj:

Before facing Kolkata Knight Riders, Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled with bat in the previous few games. But against KKR, he played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 67 runs in 58 balls with a strike rate of 115.52. After Rachin walked away early, he showcased his prowess and batted till the last and secured the win.

After that, Micheal Vaughan advised CSK’s new skipper to play big innings. He said, “I am yet to see Ruturaj look completely in control in the middle. The only advice I would give him is to focus on getting as many runs as you possibly can. If he can do that, I think his team will be in a better position and that’s the only way he can get that feel-good factor if the team wins.”

Following their victory, Chennai Super Kings currently hold the third spot on the points table with six points. Their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians is set for April 14, eagerly anticipated by fans for another exciting showdown between the two teams.
