Deepti Sharma Climbs to Second Place, Renuka Thakur Nears Career Best in ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings

In the past decades, Indian women’s cricket remarkably improved. They are currently ruling the cricket world. The Indian Women’s team is facing the Bangladesh Women’s in a five-match T20 series. In the first T20I, the Indian bowlers displayed their masterclass. After that match, Deepti Sharma and Renuka Thakur gained their T20 rankings. 

Boost in T20 Rankings:

Indian women’s team is currently facing the Bangladesh Women’s team in a five-match T20 series. In the first T20I, the Indian bowlers showcased their excellence. In the first match, Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma’s performance was outstanding. She conceded 18 runs and secured 3 wickets with an economy rate of 4.50. On the other hand, Deepti Sharma conceded 15 runs in 4 overs and ended up taking 1 wicket with an economy rate of 3.75. 

All-rounder Deepti Sharma has climbed to the second position in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings, matching her career-best. Seam bowler Renuka Thakur has also made strides toward her career-best in the first match of their five-T20I series. Sharma’s economical bowling propelled her up the rankings, closing in on England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, the current table-topper. Thakur’s exceptional performance, taking three wickets for 18 runs, has elevated her to the fourth position, trailing just one spot behind the third-ranked player.

In addition to Sharma and Thakur, other Indian players’ performances have influenced the rankings. Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav climbed from 51st to 46th, while Pooja Vastrakar rose from 41st to 38th in the bowling rankings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur advanced two places to 17th, and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh surged five places to 25th in the batting rankings, showcasing notable progress for the Indian team.

India’s Domination in the T20I Series:

India Women’s team and Bangladesh Women’s team are facing each other in a five-match T20 series. In the first match, India batted first and put on a total of 145/7. After Smriti Mandhana walked away after scoring 9 runs, Shafali Verma and Yastika Bhatia carried the innings, Verma scored 31 runs and Yastika scored 36 runs in 29 balls. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 30 runs in 22 balls. While bowling in the second innings, the bowlers dominated them again. Renuka Singh secured 3 wickets in 18 runs and Pooja Vastrakar took 2 wickets in 25 runs. They won the match by 44 runs. 

The domination remained alive in the second T20 match too. In that match, Bangladesh batted first and the Indian bowlers were in prime form. Radha Yadav took 3 wickets in 19 runs with an economy rate of 4.75. Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil took 2 wickets each. Pooja Vastrakar got 1 wicket. While batting in the second innings, Shafali Verma was dismissed early but Smriti Mandhana and Dayalan Hemalatha were boosting the game. But at that point, rain interrupted the game. While applying the DLS method, India won the match by 19 runs. With those two wins, they took the lead of the series by 2-0. In the next matches, they will continue carrying that form and dominate the entire series.
