KL Rahul Eyes T20 World Cup Spot, Targets IPL Return with Lucknow Super Giants

KL Rahul on Road to Recovery, Aims for IPL Return

Indian batsman KL Rahul, who missed the recent Test series against England due to a quadriceps injury, is reportedly on the path to recovery and aiming for a return to action in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Injury Woes and Expert Consultation

Rahul underwent surgery for the same injury last year and missed the final few matches of IPL 2023. He recently travelled to London for expert consultation and returned to India on Sunday. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI‘s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

Sources close to the development have indicated that Rahul is eager to receive a “Return to Play” certificate from the NCA soon. This would pave the way for his participation in the IPL, where he will lead the Lucknow Super Giants in their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals on March 24th.

A strong performance in the IPL is crucial for Rahul’s chances of making the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled for later this year. He reportedly aspires to be selected as a “keeper-bat”, adding another dimension to his value proposition.

Past Injury Struggles and Eventual Success

Rahul’s journey with injuries has been challenging. He sustained a similar thigh injury midway through IPL 2023, requiring surgery and an extended rehabilitation period at the NCA. However, he made a successful return at the Asia Cup and played a vital role in India’s triumphant campaign at the 2023 World Cup.

While Rahul’s focus is undoubtedly on regaining full fitness, his performance in the IPL will be closely monitored by selectors. A successful return to the field, coupled with strong batting displays, could solidify his position in the T20 World Cup squad. Fans will be eager to see him back in action and contribute to both his franchise and the national team.
