It is a sad moment for Indian cricket. – Gambhir on Rayudu’s retirement

Ambati Rayudu after being ignored twice for World Cup selection decided to quit from the international cricket. The news broke in the next afternoon of India’s match against Bangladesh that sealed their spot in the semifinal. Ex Indian cricketer Gambhir criticizes Indian selectors for the poor treatment. Gautam Gambhir says It is a sad moment for Indian cricket on Rayudu’s retirement.

Rayudu bids adieu

Ambati Rayudu was in the initial provisional World Cup squad for India. He was even in official standby list for the ongoing event in the UK. But first Vijay Shankar was preferred over him during the final selection citing the justification of ‘3D player’ by MSK Prasad. Then once Shikhar Dhawan was out due to injury, Rishabh pant was included as a replacement. A day before yesterday Mayank Agrawal replaced an injured Vijay Shankar.

Today through a statement by Hyderabad Cricket Board, Rayudu without stating any reason announced retirement for all formats of international cricket. Hyderabad Cricket Association said in an official statement, “This is to inform that Ambati Rayudu, Hyderabad captain and member of the India ODI team, has decided to retire from longer version of the game including Ranji Trophy (multi day) to focus on limited overs cricket and T20 cricket.”

Gautam Gambhir says It is a sad moment for Indian cricket

Post the news, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has showed his grievance towards the Indian cricket selection committee. He has questioned their decision-making skills for the same. “According to me, the selectors have been a complete disappointment this World Cup. Rayudu’s retirement decision is because of them and their decision-making skills are to be blamed for this,”

He has mentioned if a cricketer of Rayudu’s stature after displaying his skills in the IPL so well, has to call it off in this way, this is doomsday for Indian cricket. “A cricketer like him that has played so well in the IPL and for the nation, scored three 100’s and ten 50’s, and despite that if a player has to retire – it is a sad moment for Indian cricket,”
