Additionally, he appealed to fans, urging them not to jeer Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians. Ganguly emphasized the importance of respecting Mumbai Indians’ decision regarding Pandya’s captaincy, indicating the need for support and acceptance from the fans towards the franchise’s choices.

In his remarks about Rohit Sharma, Sourav Ganguly lauded Sharma’s distinction both as a captain and player. However, Ganguly emphasized the importance of fans showing respect towards Hardik Pandya in his new role as Mumbai Indians’ captain. He stressed the significance of acknowledging and supporting Pandya’s leadership, highlighting the transition within the team structure.
He said, “Rohit Sharma has a different class, his performance as a captain & player for the franchise and for India has been on a different level.”

With DC losing three out of four matches, they currently occupy the 9th position, while MI is yet to secure a victory this season. While talking about Mumbai Indians, Ganguly said, “ Mumbai is a good team. We expect them to play well. They have been quality side for many years. T20 is a format where you can lose 2-3 games on the bounce. This is their home, a great venue. It’s gonna be a good game.”

In each of the three matches Mumbai Indians (MI) played this season, Hardik Pandya faced the brunt of the crowd’s disapproval. Even at the Wankhede Stadium, which has long been a fortress for the franchise, he couldn’t escape the jeers. The home crowd, often considered the 12th man for MI, turned against him, highlighting the intensity of the fans’ dissatisfaction with his performance as captain.
Sourav Ganguly emphasized the importance of fans refraining from booing Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, urging them to respect the franchise’s decision. Ganguly remarked that it was unfair to target Hardik as he had no role in his appointment as captain. He stressed the need for fans to acknowledge this reality and move forward positively, emphasizing the significance of supporting the team despite any reservations about individual appointments.
He said, “I don’t think they should boo Hardik Pandya. It’s not correct. The franchise has appointed him as captain.”
