Dhoni Review System Fails

MS Dhoni opted not to take the DRS and Jason Roy went on to hammer India. Dhoni, who is famous for his reviewing ability, missed to read it for the second time in this World Cup. The same batsman provided a solid base for England.

Dhoni Review System Fails

In the 11th over of the England innings, Jason Roy nudged a Hardik Pandya delivery to Dhoni down the leg side. But the umpire on duty, Aleem Dar couldn’t spot the edge and signalled it wide. At that time, Roy was batting on 20. Virat Kohli consulted Dhoni and Panyda looked quite convinced about the dismissal. But Dhoni refused to take DRS. Later, the replay showed that Dhoni misjudged the call the ball had touched the glove on his way to the wicketkeeper. Roy went on to score 66 off 57 balls before getting dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. His partnership of 160 runs with Jonny Bairstow (111) laid the foundation for England’s onslaught.

Roy works on the opportunity

DRS was named Dhoni Review System by fans for his accuracy and judgment. But this is the second time in this World Cup that Dhoni failed. Earlier, against Pakistan, Dhoni failed in his judgement against Babar Azam. The ball off Yuzvendra Chahal on that day had hit the pad first and then bat. Babar Azam had scored 48 runs although it had not hurt India a lot.

But today the scenario was different. Knowing how dangerous the England team is and how ruthless Jason Roy can be, the misjudgment hurt India as England piled on to a massive total. In fact, to add onto the harm, Roy hit the next two balls for a six and a four.
