Delhi Capitals sign Aussie wonderkid Jake Fraser-McGurk as Lungi Ngidi’s replacement for IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals (DC) have signed promising Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for South African pacer Lungi Ngidi for the IPL 2024 season. Fraser-McGurk, 21, is known for his right-handed batting and leg-spin bowling. He has been hailed as the next big thing in Australian cricket due to his impressive batting style, timing, and power-hitting abilities.

Fraser-McGurk made headlines last year by scoring 257 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 158.64 for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. He also achieved a remarkable feat by scoring a 29-ball century in the Marsh Cup, Australia’s domestic ODI competition, breaking records set by Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers for the quickest List-A tons.

His performance earned him an international call-up for Australia’s series against the West Indies, where he played two ODIs and scored 10 (5) and 41 (18) respectively. Delhi Capitals’ decision to sign Fraser-McGurk seems strategic, especially after losing their young batter Harry Brook to injury, who was valued at ₹4 crore.

Fraser-McGurk’s addition to the team provides a batting replacement for Ngidi, who wasn’t expected to be a regular starter. Delhi Capitals’ coach Ricky Ponting has been a vocal admirer of Fraser-McGurk, advocating for his fast-tracked entry into the Australian cricket system.

The Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2024 campaign will kick off on March 23 against the Punjab Kings.
