Yuvraj Singh Thinks Destiny Was On India’s Side In World Cup Semi-Final In 2011

The 2011 World Cup was special for India in every sense. Winning the title after 28 years was special. The road to the finale was special, especially the win against Pakistan in the semi-final. Yuvraj Singh’s performance in the tournament made it extra special as he delivered with an unfit body. The Man of Tournament thinks that the Indian team was destined to win the semi-final match as destiny was on India’s side.

Yuvraj credits luck

Yuvraj Singh almost singlehandedly won the World Cup for India in 2011. His consistency was extraordinary. He delivered almost at every occasion. But he failed to perform against Pakistan in the semi-final. The semi-final between two arch-rivals was an encounter to be recalled forever which saw India finally registering a win by 29 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was at his best once again against the green army and hit a brilliant 85. Speaking about the same, in an Instagram session, Yuvraj said that he feels the men in blue were destined to win the match and reach the Final. On that note, let us remember how Tendulkar’s fine knock got four chances when he was dropped on 27, 45, 70, and 81.

“I think we were destined to win that game. I think Sachin scored 87 in that game and got dropped twice. Hence, it was just meant to happen,” said Yuvraj in the session.

Yuvraj’s back luck at Mohali

The match was played at Mohali, Yuvraj Singh’s home ground. India’s main man from the victorious World Cup campaign feels that his back luck at Mohali continued even in that important match against Pakistan. Yuvraj remembered his Test debut at Mohali and also said how his knee and finger were injured in the same venue.

“I played the semi-final at my home ground [Mohali]. Mohali has been a very unlucky ground for me, I made my Test debut over there, got my knee broken there and fractured my finger over there as well.”

He added, “Everyone had come to see me and watch the local boy perform in a World Cup game, and I got out on the very first delivery. The silence after my wicket was similar to when Sachin used to get out.
