WPL 2024 Purple Cap: Updated After Mumbai Indians vs. Gujarat Giants Match No. 3

Another day, another thrilling fixture between the girls. It was just the third game of the Women’s Premier League and the competition got tight from day one. On February 25, Mumbai Indians met Gujarat Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Gujarat Giants started their journey with a heartbreaking defeat. 

After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians decided to bowl first. The Mumbai bowlers have been dominating since the beginning. Shabnim Ismile got the first success from the team. She dismissed Veda Krishnamurthy on a duck. Then she took Harleen Deol on 8 runs. After losing the first few wickets early, the Giants were already under pressure. 

In the form of Mumbai’s bowling excellence, Gujarat Giants batters could not bounce back in the match. Ashleigh Gardner scored 15 runs in 22 balls and Bryce remained unbeaten on 25 runs. On the other hand, Shabnim Ismile ended up the match after taking 3 wickets in 18 runs. Amelia Kerr was outstanding. She picked up 4 wickets in 17 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Healy Mathews took 1 wicket each. 

On the other hand, Mumbai’s team game sealed the match. Gujarat tried to dominate the opponent but failed to do it. Harman Preet Kaur played a captain’s knock and remained unbeaten on 46 runs. Gujarat Giants bowler Tanuja Kanwar took 2 wickets in 21 runs. Kathryn Emma Bryce and Lea Tahuhu took 1 wicket each.
