West Indies squad for the Test series against India has been announced. The Universe Boss Chris Gayle has been kept out of the same as the selectors have not granted an emotional Test adieu to him on home ground.
Gayle ready for the final appearance
Chris Gayle played his last test in September 2014, but had hinted during the World Cup this year about playing a final test before bringing down the curtain finally on his international career. He had the urge to play against India in the two-match test series at home. From 103 test matched Gayle has accumulated 7214 runs in test cricket with the highest score of 333. But recently he seemed to have lost the usual charm and has been confined to limited-overs cricket and franchise T20 leagues. So in all likelihood, Gayle will finally appear for international cricket in the third ODI in Port of Spain.
New Names
The selectors have kept faith in the squad that earned a 2-1 series victory over England earlier this year at home. Injured Alzarri Joseph and Jomel Warrican have been kept out as off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall will probably make his test debut after taking 260 wickets at 23.90 apiece in 55 first-class matches. “Alzarri is undergoing remedial work and we are monitoring his recovery, but we do not think he is ready yet to last five days of a gruelling Test match,” inform the selection panel, Chief Robert Haynes. West Indies ‘A’ team captain Shamarh Brooks is another new recruit. The two-match series is scheduled to begin on August 22 and Cornwell has a high probability of making his debut on that day.
