India will meet New Zealand for the first semi-final of World Cup 2019 on July 9, 2019. Prior to the clash Indian captain, Virat Kohli addressed the press and once again came in defence for the ex-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
India to play New Zealand
India finished the round-robin format as the topper of the table with seven wins from nine matches. They will face the Kiwis who are the fourth team in the list. The contest will be held at Old Trafford, Manchester and Indian team is considering as the favourites for the clash. India’s journey to the top four wasn’t smooth and it needed the seniors to take lead. MS Dhoni took charge when needed for the team but was criticized for the way he carried on. His form has been criticized a lot in recent times although his teammates, coaches, and captain have always shown support for him.
Kohli on Dhoni
In the same context Kohli even today applauded Dhoni for being one of the vital members of the team. He credited Dhoni for taking lead and guiding the team. Kohli said that the entire team is grateful to the senior wicketkeeper-batsman of Indian cricket team for his contributions. “I’m sure if you ask anyone they will have special things to say about Dhoni – he’s handled the whole team in transition we understand what he means – you need to appreciate what he’s done for Indian cricket – we are very grateful for what he’s done for all of us – he’s in a very comfortable and happy space.”
Kohli who began his career under MS Dhoni is now leading the team for the first time in the World Cup. It has been said many times how Dhoni helps Kohli in captaincy sharing valuable inputs. He is seen giving tips to the bowlers and suggesting for fielding positions as well. No wonder that Kohli will come up to support the ex-captain whom he respects as big brother. The Indian captain Virat Kohli said, “Respect for MS Dhoni will always be sky high in my eyes. Really delighted to have played with him for so many years.”
