VVS Laxman decides to stay back, Bumrah-led Team India to play in Ireland without a coach

As the cricketing world eagerly anticipates Jasprit Bumrah’s much-awaited comeback, the Indian squad is all set to depart for Dublin on August 15 for a three-match series against Ireland. However, there’s an unexpected twist as VVS Laxman, the head of the coaching staff, will not be accompanying the team for this series. Instead, a few other coaches, including Sitanshu Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule, will be part of the support staff.

Laxman decided to step away

The absence of Rahul Dravid and his coaching team, who are currently in the United States for the final phase of the bilateral series against West Indies, had led to speculations that VVS Laxman would lead the coaching staff for the Ireland series. Nevertheless, it has been revealed that Laxman, who also serves as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), will not be part of the tour.

The three T20 matches between India and Ireland are scheduled for August 18, 20, and 23, providing fans with an exciting cricketing spectacle. Jasprit Bumrah’s return to competitive cricket after being out of action since September 2022 due to injury is undoubtedly one of the highlights of this series. Bumrah’s form and fitness have been closely monitored by cricket enthusiasts, as he is considered a linchpin in India’s plans for the upcoming World Cup.

India to gauge Bumrah’s fitness

This series is more than just a warm-up for the Indian team; it’s an opportunity to gauge Bumrah’s progress since his back surgery in February. His comeback will be closely observed by fans, experts, and cricketing authorities alike, as India prepares for the pinnacle event in the cricketing calendar.

The team’s preparation for the Ireland series involves a strategic approach, with the squad assembling in Dublin in two separate groups. One batch, currently in Miami for the last two T20Is against West Indies, will make their way from the United States. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and the rest of the contingent will take off from Mumbai on an early Tuesday flight, ready to embark on this significant cricketing journey.
