Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli hit a ton on Sunday ending his five-month drought for an ODI hundred. It helped India to win the rain-affected second ODI by 59 runs (DLS) method. India took the lead of 1-0 in the series while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was in all praise for the skipper during a press conference.

A brilliant 120 helped Kohli to go past Sourav Ganguly on the list of most runs scored in ODIs. His reaction after scoring the hundred showed how much he was hunting for it. Even Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar talked about the same in the post-match press conference. “From Virat’s expression you know he badly wanted to score a hundred, not because he was out of form but because he was getting out on 70s and 80s. He is always known for scoring big runs,” said Kumar.

Kumar who registered a match-winning figure of 4/31 in his allotted 8-over spell was applauding the efforts put by Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. Iyer returning to the side after almost 18 months, smashed five boundaries and a six as he scored 71 runs to his name. The partnership between Iyer and Kohli turned out to be a valuable one. Speaking about the same even Kumar shared the same opinion, “It was a crucial partnership with Virat. It wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on. He (Iyer) played with a lot of maturity,” said Kumar while praising Iyer.

Kohli, who wanted to get back his purple patch, said he was happy to contribute with a hundred when the team wanted it. He explained how it is important for one of the top three senior batsmen to score a big inning and Sunday it was his turn.

While talking about Iyer, Kohli was happy with his confidence and attitude. “He (Iyer) is a very confident guy and has the right attitude. He really got the tempo going and took the pressure off me. After I got out, he got the extra runs as well.”
