Vanuatu stuns Zimbabwe in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier; Scotland beats Uganda

The ICC Women T20 World cup qualifiers have finally started. The final two spots for the tournament will be decided at the Qualifiers that have begun on 25 April in UAE.

Ten teams aim to claim the final tickets for Bangladesh via the tournament in Abu Dhabi, with T20 World Cup spots decided on 5 May and a Qualifier winner crowned on 7 May.

Vanuatu’s remarkable performance against Zimbabwe was the highlight of Day 1 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024 in Abu Dhabi. Vanuatu began their tournament on a high note by bowling Zimbabwe out for 61.

It was actually Zimbabwe team that won the toss. However, The team’s decision to bat first at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium backfired, as Vanuatu bowled a lively spell to dismiss them for 61 in 13.3 overs.

Zimbabwe’s attempts to save the innings fell short as Vanuatu continued to strike at regular intervals. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 61, their lowest-ever women’s T20I total, as leg-spinner Nasimana Navaika ripped through the middle order, taking four wickets for 13 runs.

Scotland defeats Uganda

Scotland, were requested to bat first against Uganda, and scored an impressive 161 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs. They completed the target thanks to an undefeated 95-run fourth-wicket stand between openers Sasika Horley and Ailsa Lister. Horley remained undefeated, scoring 61 off 52 balls, including seven fours.

Ailsa Lister had scored 55 runs in 34 balls as Scotland increased the tempo of hheir match. Earlier, Darcey Carter started with 16 from her 24 balls as the Ugandan bowlers struggled to make an impact.Slater’s match-winning five for 17 and teammate Abtaha Maqsood’s 3 for 10 came back in Uganda’s reply. nets at regular intervals as Uganda were bundled out for 52 in 12.2 overs. Phiona Kulume was the only one to reach double figures.
