Tom Moody points out a huge tactical error in Hardik Pandya’s captaincy

Gujarat Titans lost the game against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday by 3 wickets. Rajasthan were struggling at 26-2 at the end of the powerplay. But due to some tactical errors by Pandya and heroics by Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer, Rajasthan pulled off a great heist.

As the team’s IPL 2023 match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) was played on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, spinner Noor Ahmad, a rookie, was given the opportunity to bowl the match-deciding final over. According to Tom Moody, Hardik Pandya made the wrong decision.

According to the former Australian cricketer, Pandya had a lot of options, which could have caused some uncertainty. Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph, the top bowlers for Gujarat Titans (GT), were also mentioned as having been thoroughly beaten, which may have caught the Gujarat captain by surprise.

Tom Moody said

“I don’t have a problem with him (Hardik Pandya) bowling out (in the first eight overs) because they were dominating the game there. He bowled four overs for 1/24, great job. I felt there were a couple of key bowlers in that lineup that just didn’t have their night, Alzarri Joseph and Rashid Khan, and you’d rarely say that in the same sentence. A person who can bowl 150 kmph, and the best leg spinner in the world. It’s easy to point a finger at the captain, but he’s offered opportunities to his best two options, and they haven’t had their best night.

“You just wonder whether because there were so many options that he [Hardik Pandya] was nearly spoilt for choice and played the wrong card.”

Joseph ended up costing the team dearly, although Sharma bowled a superb opening session, allowing just seven runs in two overs. When Pandya chose not to pass the ball to Sharma in the final over, many spectators were taken aback.
