Tim Southee’s Optimistic Road to Recovery: Ready to Conquer in the World Cup

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is going to start within 24 hours. It is high time. All teams are done with their preparations. Now it is time to concentrate and execute the plan according to the situation. England and New Zealand will be locking horns in the first match. England was the last time defending champion of this tournament. In the 2019 World Cup. they defeated New Zealand in the super over of the final match and lifted their maiden trophy. The first match of the 2023 World Cup can be a revenge-taking match for the Kiwis. But they are going through a setback. Star New Zealand bowler Tim Southee is injured. But this Kiwi player shared his thoughts on coming back to the World Cup.

The injury concern:

Tim Southee is one of the key players of the New Zealand team. But he is going through an injury. Southee dislocated his thumb during the ODI series against England last month. After that serious injury, he is doubtful for the first match against England. However, the Kiwi bowler reached India on October 3. He is hopeful about his recovery.

Tim Southee’s Words:

He is very optimistic about his recovery and along with this, he is hopeful he will be back in the action super soon. He said, “It’s still a bit tender where there’s a bit of scarring and a bit of numbness around where the plate is. So I guess it’s just about getting used to that. And getting back into some bowling. Haven’t done a lot of bowling over the last couple of weeks, so it’s about getting your loads back up as well as managing the thumb.”

Further, he added, “ The injury was something new. Haven’t done an injury like this before. I guess when something like that happens so close to a world event, your mind starts to drift toward that. With the limited time we had, I guess sitting down and working out the fastest recovery time, and the route back was to chuck some screws in it and a plate and hope for the best. Everyone I’ve dealt with and the process has been brilliant to get me to this stage. So fingers crossed we can carry on the recovery process and be right in the time.”

This is going to be Tim Southee’s third ODI World Cup. In 2011, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand in the semi-finals. In 2015 and 2019 they lost finals. The 2019 World Cup final was the most heartbreaking for them. They were so close to winning but that didn’t happen. So, in this World Cup, they are ready to conquer. On October 5, they will face England in a revenge-taking match.
