Ex-England Spinner Monty Panesar to Run in UK Election for George Galloway’s Party in Ealing Southall

Monty Panesar, the former England spinner, is gearing up for a fresh start in his career. He’s set to enter the political arena as a parliamentary candidate for George Galloway’s Workers Party in the upcoming general election. This move was confirmed by George Galloway, the leader of the Workers Party of Britain.

Monty Panesar to Start Political Career:

Monty Panesar, born in Luton, played 50 Tests for England, taking 167 wickets at 34.71. Known by his full name, Mudhsuden Singh Panesar, he made history as the first practicing Sikh to represent England in 2006 during a tour of India. After retiring from cricket, Panesar pursued a sports journalism course at St Mary’s University, London, furthering his career beyond the cricket field.

Monty Panesar, the former England cricketer, is set to stand as a parliamentary candidate for George Galloway’s Workers Party in the upcoming general election. Galloway, known for his left-wing stance, stated that Panesar is among the 200 candidates the party plans to field for the election.

Panesar will contest in the Ealing Southall constituency in west London, aiming to challenge the significant majority held by Virendra Sharma of the Labour Party. Despite being born in Luton, Panesar will run for office in Ealing Southall, a constituency traditionally dominated by the Labour Party since 2007. With Sharma currently holding a substantial majority of over 16,000 votes, Panesar faces a challenging electoral battle in a constituency where nearly one-third of the population is Asian, according to the 2021 Census.

Panesar’s Words:

Before starting the new innings, former England bowler, Monty Paneser opened up. He said, “I want to be the voice for the workers of this country. My aspiration in politics is to one day become Prime Minister, where I would make Britain a safer and stronger nation. But the first job at hand is to represent the people of Ealing Southall.”

Galloway officially announced Panesar’s candidacy, with the grand reveal set to take place at a press event outside the iconic Houses of Parliament, adding an exciting twist to the political arena. He said, “I’ll present 200 of them outside Parliament this afternoon, including – you’ll like this – Monty Panesar, the ace Indian cricketer, former England international cricketer, who will be our candidate in Southall. Monty, of course, was a great left-arm spinner and so we could do with him.”
