After the entire group stage of the IPL 2024, four teams have qualified for the playoff stage. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are standing in the first and second positions in the points table. In the whole season, Kolkata Knight Riders performed exceptionally well. They played 14 matches and secured 9 wins and two matches ended with no results. In every department, they were excellent. They dominated the whole tournament and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad spread the excitement. While picking up some of the greats of the cricket world in the auction, the franchise caught the attention. They made a great start to their journey in this edition of the IPL. Throughout the group stage, they showcased their class. Under Pat Cummins’ captaincy, the team qualified for the playoffs after 2020. That is incredible. Now they are eagerly waiting to face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Wasim Jaffer’s Advice to SRH:

As the two powerhouses of IPL 2024 prepare for Qualifier 1, former India opener Wasim Jaffer advised Sunrisers Hyderabad to strengthen their bowling lineup by adding a fast bowler. This strategic move could enhance their chances against their formidable opponent. He said, “I feel Sunrisers [Hyderabad] will have to add a fast bowler to their bowling lineup. In their previous, Shahbaz Ahmed and Nitish Reddy proved expensive. Sanvir is not being used a lot as a batter. So, I think they should find a place for [Jaydev] Unadkat. The pitch will be good (to bat), you need bowling options. This is one thing that SRH can do in Qualifier 1.”

On KKR Player Rahmanullah Gurbaz:

Phil Salt’s departure from the KKR camp due to international commitments has prompted discussions about his replacement. With England gearing up for the T20 World Cup against Pakistan, KKR considers Rahmanullah Gurbaz as Salt’s potential replacement for the IPL 2024 playoffs. However, Jaffer cautioned KKR about Gurbaz’s possible lack of recent match practice, suggesting he might be ‘rusty’ during the playoffs.

Jaffer said, “Rahmanullah Gurbaz will be slightly rusty. He will miss game time. A couple of innings would’ve been better for Gurbaz before the playoffs. He has not played for a long time and will replace in-form Phil Salt as wicketkeeper-batter and opener. The Knight Riders’ batters have also not played for nearly 10 days.”
