Former England cricket team captain Nasser Hussain believes that England Cricket Board has finalized the best England squad ever for a World Cup. With the squad, he believes the No.1 ICC team has all the possibility to win the cup.
Hussain told Sky Sports News, “That’s the best squad that England have ever picked for a World Cup.” He went on to add, “That is a phenomenal lineup of cricketers, especially in the batting department.”
Those Who Missed
Joe Denly and David Willey couldn’t make it to the final squad even after being named in the preliminary squad, Nasser thinks, “It could be a blessing in disguise for Denly.” He opined, “There is an Ashes coming up, and if he was in this squad but not playing – carrying the drinks for a month – he might have missed out on the Ashes.
For David Willey, he has a different opinion though. “It’s not a blessing in disguise for David Willey.” He said, “He’s been part of the set-up for three years, and he’s been replaced by someone who has bowled 22 overs in ODIs. I think he will be absolutely ticking.
Those Who Made It
Nasser seemed happy about the Archer and Dawson. He said, “But picking Archer was the right call. He has to play, he’s such a rare talent. I would like to have the left-arm option of Willey, but I fully understand you’ve got to leave someone out.”
He has high hopes from Dawson as well. “He (Dawson) is a good pick. Say you get to a semi-final on a tired pitch and Moeen or Adil Rashid comes down with the illness, Liam is England’s next best white-ball spinner. Denly is a batsman who bowls a bit. So this is the right selection for me.”
Liam Dawson has been chosen as a better spin option than Denly. On the other hand, newcomer Jofra Archer replaced the experienced Willey.
