Split Captaincy in Indian Cricket? Kiran More Shares His Thoughts

Kiran More recently shared his thoughts on the split captaincy issue that has been a talk of Indian cricket for some time. He believes that Virat Kohli will be seen handing over the charge.

On board’s vision

While Kohli continued to lead Team India across three formats under the old selection panel. Now it will be interesting to see if the new panel thinks over the split captaincy considering the upcoming busy schedule of the side. This has been an issue of Indian cricket for a long time now. A section hails Rohit Sharma for his ability to lead a side in limited-overs cricket and IPL has been a proof of his excellent captaincy.

Speaking to India TV, Kiran More said, “I think the vision of the board drives these things. I believe Rohit Sharma will get a chance soon. Virat Kohli is a shrewd captain who played under MS Dhoni. How long he wants to captain the ODIs and T20s, he will also think. You will learn a lot more about these decisions after the England tour.”

On split captaincy

He continued, “It [Split captaincy] can work in India. What the senior players think about the Indian team’s future is very important. With Virat Kohli, captaining three teams isn’t that easy plus he has to perform as well. And I give him the credit for it because performing in every format while captaining and winning… but, I think there will be a time when Virat Kohli will say ‘Now it’s enough, let Rohit lead the side.”

Rohit Sharma does not have a lot of chance of leading the side in the longest format albeit. Moreover, under Kohli, Indian cricket team has done well in Test. Whenever Kohli is on break, Rohit Sharma gets chance to lead the team in white-ball cricket. Kohli and Rohit both will be playing another 50-over World Cup certainly and there is hardly any chance of Rohit Sharma leading that.
