When Prithvi Shaw Lost the Count of Deliveries

Prithvi Shaw lost the count of deliveries during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021. Shaw revealed that it was his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan who reminded him of the same.

What happened?

Prithvi Shaw smashed six fours in an over delivered by Shivam Mavi in an IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Delhi Capitals openers hit six fours in that over and lost the count as Mavi had bowled a wide on the first ball. After five balls, Shaw thought that the over was ended. However, Shaw’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan reminded him about the remaining delivery. Shaw revealed that he was not thinking about the record but before the final ball of the over he realized he could hit six fours in one over. He completed the feat and became the second batsman in the IPL history after Ajinkya Rahane.

Prithvi Shaw said while talking to India News, “Actually I came to know after the fifth ball that a sixth ball was left because Mavi had bowled the first ball as a wide. So, I was counting that ball as well and it had slipped my mind. So, Shikhar Dhawan told me one more ball is left”.

He added, “Then it clicked me. I had not thought anything while hitting the first five boundaries. But I was definitely thinking about that before hitting the sixth boundary, that I have come close after hitting five boundaries in five balls and should try one more.”

Shaw ended by scoring 82 runs from only 41 balls and completed his fifty off just 18 balls in that game. Shaw was in a tremendous form in IPL 2021 and scored 308 runs in eight matches for the Capitals. The tournament is expected to be completed in between September and October and the 21-year-old will be looking for another good run.
