Six Times When Chris Gayle Was Involved In Controversies

Chris Gayle is a charming character. He likes to address himself as the Universe Boss and his Instagram account is proof of that. His lifestyle has often made it to the headlines. His behaviours have been often criticized. But Gayle never cared to change. Here are six times when Chris Gayle got involved in controversies. But let us tell, there’s more!

1. During Australia’s 2015-16 Big Bash season Chris Gayle said that he would like to do an interview with Mel McLaughlin just to see her eyes. He also asked her out during the interview. He said, “So hopefully we can win this game and we can have a drink after. Don’t blush, baby.” This did cost him a fine of A$10,000 for his remarks. But he did not stop there. He came up with another controversial statement saying, “I didn’t mean to be disrespectful and I didn’t mean it to be taken serious. Suddenly I’m the number one thing trending on Twitter worldwide. Kim Kardashian is nowhere.”

2. Three British women were arrested by Sri Lankan police from the rooms of four West Indies players including Chris Gayle. It was during the ICC World Twenty20 Championship in 2012 and West Indies were scheduled to face Australia in the semi-final. A statement from the police spokesman read, “At least three girls of British nationality have been arrested for unauthorised entry by the ministerial security division when they entered the hotel floor of the rooms of the West Indian cricketers.” The women were reportedly the guests of Gayle, Andre Russell, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith. The hotel authority had no objection with this but the news did make headlines.

3. Chris Rogers from Sydney Thunder once said that Gayle was a bad influence on the upcoming generation. Gayle decided to reply back through his autobiography, ‘Six Machine’. Gayle took a dig at his former teammate in the BBL and revealed that it was Rogers who used to accompany Gayle in the bar most of the times. “Chris Rogers, how can you claim that when it was you and me at the bar most nights? I’m not a snitch, but I’ve heard from your own mouth what you’ve done. Next time you want to open your mouth, maybe chew on a carrot instead.”

4. Ian Chappell former Australian great once requested the ICC to expel the Chris Gayle from cricket. Gayle who loves to call himself the Universe Boss, asked Chappell, “Ian Chappell, how can you ban the Universe Boss? You’d have to ban cricket itself.” He further went on to write “Ian Chappell, a man who was once convicted of unlawful assault in the West Indies for punching a cricket official.” He in fact once asked by Mumbai Mirror his reaction on Chappell and he threw a counter-question, “Who’s Ian Chappell?”

5. Gayle’s another interview in Bangalore during IPL 2016 made him infamous. It was a Times journalist Charlotte Edwardes to whom Gayle boasted of owning a “very, very big bat, the biggest in the wooooorld, you think you could lift it? You’d need two hands.” According to the journalist, Gayle asked her if she had dyed her said and also said, “I haven’t had a shag since I been here.” He also asked Edwardes if the Times magazine journalist had ever “had” a black man and been in a threesome.

6. Chris Gayle has a strip club installed in his own home. This should not be counted as controversy as such but this is not that common among celebrities or at least they don’t show it off. With a picture of his new room, Gayle once wrote on Instagram, “From the pool to the strip club…if u don’t have a strip club at home, U ain’t a cricket ‘Player’ .. I always make sure my guest well entertained and feel like they are at home.”
