Four Times Indian Skipper Virat Kohli Involved In Controversies

Virat Kohli is famous for his aggressive attitude on and off-the-field. Lately, he has become a calmer person but even nowadays he loses his control often. The initial days were tougher when Virat Kohli used to get involved in controversies. These are four such instances where Indian skipper was criticized for his different act.

1. During IPL 2015, Virat Kohli went against the Indian cricket board’s rules that suggested no one except the players, officials, and staffs could enter the pavilion during the IPL matches. The officials needed to have valid cards for the pavilion access. But Anushka Sharma was seen multiple times in the stands cheering for Virat Kohli in a washed-out match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils. Kohli was warned by the board for violating the rule.

2. The sixth edition of the Indian Premier League saw Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli getting involved in a heated conversation. Hailing from Delhi, both these batsmen are known for their aggressive character. In a match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli, who was returning to the dugout after being dismissed and got a send-off from the KKR skipper. This obviously did not go well with the RCB skipper. Both charged towards each other but fortunately, other players and the umpired intervened to get the situation under control.

3. During India’s tour to Australia in 2011, Virat Kohli got involved in an ugly controversy for his gesture to the audience. He was fielding near the boundary line in the second Test between India and Australia at Sydney Cricket. The spectators right behind Kohli throwing not very nice comments at him. Kohli was back then known for his fiery nature. He was young and spontaneous. His on-field and off-field reactions were often criticized then. Kohli could not take constant comments targeted at him from the audience and responded by showing middle finger to the spectators. The offensive gesture did not only cut 50% of his match fees, but also made him a part of nasty cricket controversies forever.

4. The rift between Virat Kohli and former coach Anil Kumble is probably one of the most talked-about chapters of Indian cricket. After Sourav Ganguly-Greg Chappell clash, another captain-coach saga made headlines in 2016. Kumble delivered results and was certain to get an extension after the completion of his initial one year of tenure. But after the Champions Trophy Kumble suddenly stepped down and reports of a clash between him and Kohli started doing the rounds. Kohli was criticized for not handling the matter the way it was supposed to be.
