Sanju Samson Slapped With A Fine Worth 30 Percent Of His Match Fees  Over Disagreement With Umpire

The 56th match of IPL 2024 was full of ups and downs for both the teams involved. The match was held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi between the host team Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.

RR won the toss and chose to bowl first. This decision came out to be proven as a bad one since RR lost the match by 20 runs. Additionally, RR has also lost their previous match doing the run-chase by 1 run.

DC won the match to gain points and get on the middle of the points table alongside SRH,CSK and LSG with 12 points each. RR has retained their spot at the second number on the table as of now.

The Sanju Samson Controversy

Yesterday’s match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was not only a blow to RR as they lost their second consecutive run chase, but also a shock to the team as their captain Sanju Samson was controversially dismissed from the pitch.

Samson’s controversial dismissal was the highlight as Delhi Capitals (221/8) beat Rajasthan Royals (201/8) in an IPL 2024 game. The nature of his dismissal is a matter of debate.

Sanju Samson had scored 86 and then was given out by third umpire even though replays were not conclusive. Sanju lost his wicket to a catch by Shai Hope while Mukesh Kumar was bowling. However, the fielder was so close to the boundary line that it wasn’t easy to tell apart if the batsman was actually to be dismissed or not.

Samson charged with 30% of match fee as fine

As Sanju Samson was playing while Mukesh Kumar bowled, there was somewhat of a scuffal because of his disagreement over the dismissal.

The third umpire gave him out but Samson refused to budge and kept talking with the umpire.

This behaviour of the RR captain didn’t go well with the IPL management as he was slapped with a fine that equalled to 30% of his match fees. The umpire hasn’t been fined as of yet.

“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the BCCI’s statement read.
