Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to retire from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma leading the team and Virat Kohli playing a pivotal role in the event scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies. However, reports suggest that this tournament might mark the end of their T20 International (T20I) careers.

According to sources close to sportstak, both Kohli and Rohit are likely to retire from T20Is after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. Both players have had illustrious T20I careers, with Kohli having played 151 matches and scoring 3974 runs, while Rohit has played 117 matches and scored 4037 runs.

After India’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, both players have only featured in one T20I series.

India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 will begin with a match against Ireland. Placed in Group A, India will also face arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Canada, and Ireland in the group stage, with the top teams advancing to the super 8 stage.

In addition to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant has also made a comeback to the international scene after recovering from injuries sustained in a near-fatal accident while driving back home from New Delhi.

However, India will miss the services of Mohammed Shami, who is currently recovering from an injury. In his absence, Mohammed Siraj will open the bowling attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah.

Shivam Dube has also been included in the squad for his performance in the last T20I series against Afghanistan.
