Rohit and Virat should play long innings – Sachin Tendulkar

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar seems to be impressed with the pace attack of Pakistan cricket team. In an exclusive chat with India Today, he talked about Mohammad Amir, his potential and Indian cricket team.

Rohit and Virat Should play long innings

Virat Kohli led Indian cricket team will take on Pakistan cricket team on June 16 in the most intense match of World Cup 2019. India had two convincing wins over South Africa and Australia before their last match against New Zealand was abandoned due to heavy rain. Now they are all to fight against the arch-rivals Pakistan. Ahead of the match, Sachin Tendulkar shared the plan for Indian cricket team against Pakistan. He mentioned that Rohit and Virat should be able to play long innings despite the fiery spells from Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir. He said, “Rohit and Virat should also be looking to play long innings. The plan should be that the rest of the guys play around them”. With Shikhar Dhawan missing the match the captain and vice-captain have been extra careful. Pakistan will target their wickets from the beginning but they have to be focused for long innings.

Tendulkar’s suggestion for Indian National Cricket Team

Sachin seemed to be quite impressed with Mohammad Amir. He mentioned about Amir’s spell against Australia separately and explained how accurate his spell was. In his first spell, Amir made Aaron Finch uncomfortable and that’s what Sachin liked about him. He opined, “I wouldn’t go in with a negative mindset of playing dot balls against him.”

For India, his suggestion is to be spontaneous. He said that Indians should play their own shots and stay positive against Amir. Sachin wants India to dominate, be aggressive and also defend when required. Only survival should be the strategy according to the Master Blaster. Sachin remarked, The body language is important – the bowler knows that you’re in control if you defend confidently.”
