Rishabh Pant Fined 24 Lakhs for Slow Overrate in DC’s 2nd Offense

Rishabh Pant, the skipper of DC, incurred a fine of ₹24 lakh for the second consecutive time in IPL 2024. This penalty was imposed due to their team’s sluggish over rate during their match against KKR on April 3, Wednesday, held in Vizag. The slow-over rate occurred amidst their loss to KKR. The fine indicates the significance of adhering to the stipulated over rates, an aspect crucial for maintaining the pace and efficiency of matches in the IPL.

Pant and His teammate’s Setback After Match:

In addition to Rishabh Pant, the entire playing XI of DC faced penalties for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match. This transgression marked DC’s third loss of the season. Following the game, the BCCI issued a statement disclosing Pant’s penalty due to the team’s sluggish over-rate. Notably, DC had previously been penalized for the same offense during their victory over CSK. Consequently, Pant incurred a fine of ₹24 lakh for the repeated offense.

Apart from Rishabh Pant, every member of the DC team, including the Impact Player, received fines of ₹6 lakh each or 25 percent of their match fees. This penalty was imposed individually for their role in maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against KKR.

BCCI’s Statement:

The BCCI’s statement underscores the significance of adhering to prescribed over rates to ensure the smooth progression of matches in the IPL. While Pant’s fine reflects accountability for the team’s collective responsibility, it also serves as a reminder for players and teams to uphold the regulations set by the league.

Such penalties aim to maintain the integrity and pace of the game, emphasizing the importance of discipline and efficiency on the field. DC’s experience highlights the consequences of neglecting over-rate regulations, urging teams to prioritize adherence to avoid financial penalties and potential disruptions to their campaigns in the IPL.

In the official statement, BCCI said, “ Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3.”

Further, they added, “ As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

The Upcoming Match for DC:

Following their defeat to KKR, Rishabh Pant, and the DC squad swiftly have to shift their focus to their upcoming encounter against MI in Mumbai on April 7, Sunday. Both teams find themselves at the bottom of the table, with MI yet to secure a victory in their three matches. With little time for reflection, Pant and DC aim to regroup and strive for a much-needed win against MI to improve their standings in the IPL.
