One More Record For Virat Kohli, Now As A Captain

Virat Kohli becomes the first captain to score five consecutive half-centuries in the World Cup. Kohli is also the second batsman after Steve Smith to slam five successive 50s in the mega tournament. Smith did the same in the 2015 edition.

Virat Kohli achieved this unique feat in the much-anticipated match against England at Edgbaston today. He could never ask for a better World Cup venture for himself as a captain. In this tournament, he reached 20000 international runs and became the fastest to do so surpassing legends. Earlier Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara had the record of scoring 20000 fastest international runs, both had done it in 453 innings. Kohli took only 416 innings to do the same in the match against West Indies. He became the 12th batsman to enter the elite list overall and the third Indian after Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. The Indian skipper is one of the best one day batsmen in the history of cricket. The way he makes and breaks the record; it has already made him a legend of the game. Kohli has scored more ODI runs than any other batsman in the world since 2016- 4189 runs at an average of 83.8 in 64 innings.

He continued to carry his good form in this tournament as well. This is Kohli’s first World Cup as the captain of his side and he is leading from the front by setting examples daily. His scores in the World Cup so far read, 18 v South Africa, 82 v Australia, 77 v Pakistan, 67 v Afghanistan, 72 v West Indies, and 66 v England. Today England won the toss and elected to bat first. They put up a massive 337 for the loss of seven wickets. During the chase, India lost one early wicket of KL Rahul and the score was 8/1 when the captain walked in. He along with Rohit Sharma steadily started building the innings and gave the stability. When he got out for 66 runs, Indians were looking set on 146/2.
