NCA revamp on card; Ganguly and Dravid join hands

The National Cricket Academy’s role has been controversial and criticized for the handling of rehab. Now the BCCI and NCA are coming together to plan an overall revamp for the same.

Ganguly and Dravid join hands for NCA

In the meeting between the BCCI officials headed by Sourav Ganguly and NCA cricket head Rahul Dravid, the need for a medical panel was discussed to look after the NCA activities. This comes as a recent development after the criticism for the injury management of leading national team players including Wriddhiman Saha and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Moreover, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah chose personal rehabilitation over recovering the center in Bangalore.

For the same, the board will consult a London based clinic according to a top board official. “The BCCI will consult a London-based clinic, Fortius, for setting up its medical panel.”

The plan of revamping

The revamp will see the vacant position of the Head of fast bowling filling soon. A nutrition head will be also hired. The officials feel that there is a need for proper communication between the NCA and the people in general to clarify all kinds of further miscommunications. So a social media manager will be given the charge to provide regular updates on the happenings inside the Bangalore based facility. The head of data analytics will be on board as well.

Meanwhile, the BCCI president has made it clear that the NCA will remain the primary facility from the cricket development in the country. He hopes that the new NCA facility will be ready in 18 months’ time.

The NCA will also be conducting Level 2 and Level 3 coaching courses at its premises along with state associations. “Coach development consultants” will also be hired on a requirement basis. The idea is to take the utmost care of the players getting treated and trained at the NCA. There should be a proper caution while issuing medical updates on the Indian players as well.
