IPL 2022 Auction: Royal Challengers Bangalore Review

Royal Challengers Bangalore came in the auction with retained players Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj which meant they had a part of their core intact. After Kohli quitting the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore, the franchise would like to start afresh this year under a new captain to claim their maiden title. The auction strategy seemed pretty on point with a few areas to be still needed to be addressed.

Royal Challenger Bangalore roped in Harshal Patel for a massive 10.75 Crores and also secured services of Josh Hazelwood and Wanindu Hasaranga as likely starters. There are Jason Behrendorff and David Willey as back-ups as well. Faf du Plessis was expected to be taken by Chennai Super Kings but he was bought by Bangalore for 7 Crores. He is certainly going to add value and part of the leadership group with a chance of being the next RCB captain. The overall batting line-up seems set for Bangalore along with a strong bowling unit this time. However, Bangalore may miss experience in the middle with Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik, their new recruit sharing the main workload in the middle. The spots are likely to be occupied by Anuj Rawa along with one of Mahipal Lomror or Luvnith Sisodia unless Bangalore think of pairing Rawat and du Plessis at the top.

Meanwhile, Kohli spoke about his decision of quitting RCB captaincy in a podcast posted by the franchise. He said, “There’s nothing to be shocked about. I explain to people, I wanted some space and I wanted to manage my workload and the story ends there.” He added, “Over a period of time, you want to do what you’re doing day-in-and-day-out and you want to do as much as you can, but at the end of the day, you have to realize that quality is far more important than quantity,”
