Indian selectors ‘moving on’ without Dhoni

MS Dhoni continues to be absent in India’s upcoming tour for Bangladesh. If the chief selector is to be believed MS Dhoni’s future as an international cricketer of India doesn’t look very bright.

Prasad on India’s future plan

Earlier MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors, said that Rishabh Pant would be India’s preferred wicketkeeper-batsman across all the formats. MS Dhoni’s absence created speculations as the time increased. Now during the press conference of the announcement of India’s squads for the three-match T20I and two Test matches against Bangladesh, Prasad said that India is moving forward from the former captain cool and Sanju Samson is their back up keeper for the shortest format of the game.

Prasad shared, “This is our clear thought process that post-World Cup we are focusing on Rishabh Pant only. I made it very clear post the World Cup that we are moving on. We are giving opportunities to youngsters and see that they establish themselves in the side. With Rishabh Pant doing so well and even Sanju Samson coming into the side, I am sure you must be understanding our thought process.”

India not waiting for Dhoni anymore

Prasad further emphasized on the selectors giving importance to the young generation. He also added that Dhoni is welcome to make himself available for the selection and the choice of whichever route he takes depends on him “That is purely his personal call. Going into domestic cricket, getting his touch back, or thoughts about retirement, everything is purely his personal (decision). We’ve already laid the roadmap for future, I’m sure you can see in the way we are selecting the teams.”

He further clarified about India’s future plan and said, “I made it very clear post the World Cup that we are moving on. We are giving opportunities to youngsters and see that they establish themselves in the side.”
