Indian Premier League 2024 Orange Cap: Updated After MI vs DC and LSG vs GT Match No. 20 and 21

It is another Sunday and another thrilling day of IPL 2024. On April 7, cricket enthusiasts enjoyed two blockbusters. In the first half, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals locked horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On the other hand, the Gujarat Titans met Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. These two fixtures witnessed some amazing batting performances, making the Orange Cap race more intense. 

Mumbai’s Batting Excellence:

After losing consecutive matches, Mumbai Indians finally experienced their first-ever win in IPL 2024. The Mumbai batters played brilliantly. While opening the innings, Rohit Sharma was brilliant. He played a quickfire knock of 49 runs in just 27 balls with an exceptional strike rate of 181.48. Ishan Kishan also played a knock of 42 runs in 23 balls with 4 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries. Hardik Pandya played a knock of 39 runs. But Tim David showed a masterclass. He played an unbeaten knock of 45 runs in 21 balls. 

The target was big for Delhi Capitals. While opening the innings, DC had an early setback as David Warner walked away after scoring 10 runs but Prithvi Shaw shined bright. He played a knock of 66 runs in 40 balls with a strike rate of 165.00. Abhishek Porel scored 41 runs in 31 balls. But Tristan Stubbs was excellent. He played an unbeaten knock of 71 runs only in 25 balls. After that, they kept losing wickets consecutively. They fell short and MI won the match by 29 runs. 

LSG’s Patience and GT’s Struggle:

While batting first, Lucknow Super Giants  had a shaky start. Quinton de Kock walked away after scoring 6 runs. Devdutt Padikkal’s struggle continued with the bat. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis maintained a good partnership. But Rahul walked away after scoring 33 runs. Stoinis played a crucial knock of 58 runs in 43 balls. Nicholas Pooran again played an impactful unbeaten knock of 32 runs. They set a target of 164 against the opponent. 

While batting in the second innings, Gujarat Titans struggled while batting. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan gave a decent start. But Gill lost their wicket in 19 runs. On the other hand, Sudharsan scored 31 runs in 23 balls. Vijay Shankar added 17 runs. Rahul Tewatia scored 30 runs on a crucial point. But they got all out on 130 runs and Lucknow won the match by 33 runs.
