ICC World Cup 2019: We selected the most balanced side – Virat Kohli

On the eve of India’s first match of World Cup 2019, the Indian captain Virat Kohli met the media. He looked confident while talking about his team and their World Cup venture. He also talked about the opponent team, South Africa.

Faith on Team

Virat Kohli has absolute faith in his bowlers and believes that they can defend any given total. He mentioned that he would like to try his options based on the circumstances and situations. “Somewhere you might see three seamers, somewhere two wrist-spinners, somewhere you might see a wrist-spinner and a finger spinner playing together. That is why we selected the most balanced side we could have selected and Kedar (Jadhav) is doing well, he is back to full fitness.”

While Kedar Yadav’s fitness was a matter of concern, talks over his form were also around. Kuldeep Yadav wasn’t in great form during IPL and hence was dropped from Kolkata Knight Riders. But Virat Kohli always backed him and mentioned that IPL form was never a concern for his India selection. “Kedar is batting in the nets now, he is hitting the ball well, so it is always nice to have him back in the mix because of the variety he brings into the side.”

Kohli is feeling bad for Steyn

While talking about the first opponent South Africa, he seemed visibly upset about Dale Steyn. Steyn will be missing the World Cup following an injury which is a major blow for the Proteas. Although Kohli is feeling bad for Steyn he thinks each opponent team players needs to be respected. “South Africa is a very talented, a very dangerous side on their day and even with the replacements, they will be a very strong side.”

Kohli on Rabada

Regarding the recent debate with Kasigo Rabada, the Indian captain mentioned how he would like to focus on the game and like to discuss the issue man to man if needed. They know each other for long and hence he doesn’t want to have a media interaction on the same. Rabada, to him, is a world-class bowler and a threat for the opponent.
