IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Wanindu Hasaranga not playing today’s IPL Match against Rajasthan Royals

The cricketing world was abuzz as the Rajasthan Royals faced off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 60 of the scintillating IPL 2023 at the majestic Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The toss was won by RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, who elected to bat first, setting the stage for an intense showdown between the two powerhouses.

Why is Wanindu Hasaranga not playing today?

However, the excitement escalated further when the team lineups were revealed. The omission of Sri Lankan sensation Wanindu Hasaranga from the playing XI raised eyebrows among astute observers. While the team management chose to keep the reasons behind this decision under wraps, it appeared that Hasaranga had failed to meet the team’s expectations.

“We will have a bat first. The conditions might favor that, looks like a dry wicket. It is very clear from here on for us, that is not a bad thing sometimes. We need to execute better. 3-4 guys are putting their hand up every game, we need a bit more probably to cash in on some good positions. Wins are important, net run rate is not something we can bother about now. I think we crossed that bridge in the last game. Two changes – Parnell coming in for Hazlewood, Bracewell in for Hasaranga.”, said RCB skipper Faf du Plessis after the toss.

Having featured in eight matches for the franchise, Wanindu Hasaranga’s performance statistics fell slightly short of his potential. Despite his undeniable talent, the wily leg-spinner managed to claim just nine wickets throughout the season, with an economy rate of 8.90. This lack of impact likely influenced the team’s decision to explore alternative options for this crucial encounter.

Stepping into the limelight was the dynamic New Zealand all-rounder, Michael Bracewell. Making only his third appearance in the IPL, Bracewell’s inclusion in the lineup added a fresh and intriguing dimension to the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s strategy. With his versatile skills and the ability to make a significant impact, Bracewell brought a sense of anticipation to the field, igniting the hopes and dreams of RCB supporters worldwide.
