IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Josh Hazlewood not playing today’s IPL Match against Rajasthan Royals

In a highly anticipated clash at the illustrious Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns for a thrilling encounter in Match 60 of the scintillating IPL 2023. The stakes were high, and the captains walked out for the toss with anticipation filling the air. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, known for his strategic prowess, won the toss and elected to bat first, setting the stage for a captivating battle.

However, when the Playing XIs were unveiled, the eagle-eyed spectators were quick to notice a conspicuous omission. Australian speedster Josh Hazlewood’s name was notably absent from the RCB lineup. While du Plessis refrained from revealing the rationale behind this decision, it is safe to assume that Hazlewood fell short of the team’s expectations.

Why is Josh Hazlewood not playing today?

“We will have a bat first. The conditions might favor that, looks like a dry wicket. It is very clear from here on for us, that is not a bad thing sometimes. We need to execute better. 3-4 guys are putting their hand up every game, we need a bit more probably to cash in on some good positions. Wins are important, net run rate is not something we can bother about now. I think we crossed that bridge in the last game. Two changes – Parnell coming in for Josh Hazlewood, Bracewell in for Hasaranga.”, said RCB skipper Faf du Plessis after the toss.

Having joined the RCB camp slightly later due to his recovery from injury, Hazlewood had a limited opportunity to make his mark, featuring in just three games for the franchise. In this limited stint, he managed to claim three crucial wickets, but his economy rate of 8.44 hinted at a slight lack of impact.

The final straw that seemingly led to his omission came during the previous clash against the formidable Mumbai Indians at the renowned Wankhede Stadium. Hazlewood bowled a mere three overs, conceding 32 runs without picking up a wicket, which likely played a significant role in the team’s decision.

As the curtains rose on this pivotal encounter, the Royal Challengers Bangalore unveiled their trump card: South African paceman Wayne Parnell. The inclusion of Parnell, who had previously featured in four matches this season, showcased the team’s proactive approach in seeking the perfect balance. Parnell’s remarkable performance, claiming six wickets so far, earned him the opportunity to grace the field once again, much to the delight of RCB fans.
