IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Trent Boult not playing today’s IPL Match against Royal Challengers Bangalore

In a stunning turn of events, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) have left fans in awe and opponents scratching their heads as they made a strategic decision to exclude their leading pacer, Trent Boult, from the Playing XI for their clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) today at the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium. RR captain Faf du Plessis, after winning the toss, elected to bat first on a pitch expected to favor spinners, which led to this tactical twist.

Why is Trent Boult not playing today?

Boult, who has been an integral part of RR’s campaign this season, has wreaked havoc on opposition batsmen with his fiery pace, claiming an impressive 12 wickets in just 9 matches at an economy rate of 8.15. However, the shrewd minds behind the team’s strategy have opted for a change that emphasizes adaptability and the exploitation of local conditions.

The decision to bench Boult raised eyebrows, but the astute RR management revealed their reasoning behind the move. Recognizing the pitch’s propensity to favor spinners, the team management entrusted Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa with the responsibility to exploit the surface’s characteristics.

“Would have batted first as well. The pressure is on, we are treating this as a semi-final. To be honest, we have had just one flat game against Gujarat, the rest of the games we have played competitive games. There are a few niggles that players carry through the tournament, but the support staff have done a good job managing that. One change for today, Zampa comes in for Boult.”, said RR’s captain Sanju Samson after losing the toss.

Zampa, having showcased his prowess in previous encounters, has accumulated 5 wickets in the 4 matches he has played for RR this season. His inclusion adds a different dimension to RR’s bowling attack, complementing the existing spin resources. RR have also decided to include Joe Root instead of Jason Holder because of the former’s batting abilities and part-time spin bowling.
