Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pace sensation Mayank Yadav’s fiery start to the IPL 2024 season has been temporarily halted due to an abdominal injury. The young bowler was not included in the playing XI for their match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. Early Signs of Discomfort
During the toss, LSG skipper KL Rahul confirmed that Arshad Khan would be replacing Mayank in the team. The reason for the change became clear â Mayank had experienced soreness in his lower abdomen during their previous encounter against the Gujarat Titans. While he did manage to bowl an over, conceding 13 runs, his discomfort forced him to leave the field.
This came as a surprise to fans who witnessed Mayank’s electrifying performances in his opening matches. Against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he impressed everyone with his searing pace, clocking speeds well over 140 kmph. However, in the match against the Gujarat Titans, he struggled to replicate that earlier intensity, barely exceeding 140 kmph.
Recovery Timeline and Missed Matches
Speaking on the eve of the Delhi Capitals match, Lucknow head coach Justin Langer revealed that Mayank is likely to miss the next two games. This means he would be unavailable for the clash against DC and potentially the upcoming encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, there is a chance he might recover in time for the match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scheduled for April 19th.
Mayank’s debut in the IPL was a sight to behold. His raw pace rattled the Punjab Kings batsmen, earning him a well-deserved three wickets for just 27 runs. He further cemented his place as a talent to watch with an even more impressive performance against RCB, picking up three wickets for a mere 14 runs. He even etched his name in the record books by bowling the fastest delivery of the season so far, a scorching 156.7 kmph thunderbolt against RCB.
Mayank Yadav’s absence is a setback for LSG, who will undoubtedly miss his fiery opening spells. However, with a crucial return potentially just around the corner, fans can expect to see him back in action soon, hopefully continuing his impressive run in the IPL.
