Heated On-Field Argument Between Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine in WBBL Match

In a Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades on November 3, Indian cricket star Harmanpreet Kaur found herself embroiled in a heated on-field dispute with New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine. The incident occurred during a crucial stage of the match, adding an element of drama to the game.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Melbourne Renegades faced a challenging situation as they stood at 64 for three in nine overs. It was at this juncture that Harmanpreet Kaur took charge and played a remarkable innings, contributing an unbeaten 52 runs to guide her team.

The heated argument

However, the turning point and the source of the heated exchange came in the last ball of the 16th over when Harmanpreet was about to face Sophie Devine’s delivery. Devine decided to deliver the ball before the Indian batter was fully prepared, prompting Harmanpreet to pull out. A disagreement ensued, with Devine insisting that the over should be declared complete.

The disagreement escalated, leading to a tense moment on the field, with both players expressing their views. The umpires had to step in to resolve the situation and confer among themselves. Eventually, after consulting with the third umpire, the delivery was declared dead, and Sophie Devine was asked to bowl it again.

Beth Mooney, who witnessed the exchange, offered a light-hearted perspective on the incident and humorously commented that she wasn’t sure who would win in a battle of words between Harmanpreet and Devine, adding that Harmanpreet can be quite intimidating.

There’s a bit of argy-bargy going on between Harmanpreet (Kaur) and Soph (Devine), and I’m actually not sure who would win that battle because Harmanpreet scares me a little bit,” said Mooney.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s resilient innings ultimately helped the Renegades post a competitive total of 171 for six in their allotted 20 overs.
