Hardik Pandya to miss IPL 2025?

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya‘s IPL 2024 season concluded on a disappointing note as his team faced their 10th defeat on Friday night. Adding to the woes, Pandya has been suspended from participating in the next match due to a slow over-rate offense during their 14th and final match of the season against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium.

Pandya has also been fined Rs 30 lakh for Mumbai Indians’ slow over-rate against LSG. “As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offenses, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh and banned from playing the team’s next match,” stated the IPL after LSG’s 18-run victory over MI.

The remaining members of Mumbai Indians’ playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever was lesser.

Hardik Pandya is the second player to receive a one-match suspension in IPL 2024 for an over-rate offense. Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant missed his team’s crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru due to a suspension for his team’s third over-rate offense. Despite an appeal lodged by DC, citing various reasons for the delay, the ruling was upheld. Axar Patel, who led the team against RCB, mentioned that Pant was not happy with the verdict.

Since the match against LSG was Mumbai Indians’ last of IPL 2024, Pandya will miss the team’s opening match of the next season as part of the punishment. It was a dismal season for the five-time champions, who could only secure victory in four out of their 14 league matches, ultimately finishing at the bottom of the table.
