Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has voiced concerns over the struggling form of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) speedster Mohammed Siraj, advocating for the need to rest the bowler to help him rediscover his rhythm in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Siraj’s Struggles and Harbhajan’s Advice
In the IPL 2024 season so far, Mohammed Siraj has faced significant challenges, claiming only four wickets in six matches while conceding 229 runs in 22 overs. Harbhajan Singh, speaking on his YouTube channel, highlighted Siraj’s visible fatigue and recommended giving him a break to rejuvenate both his body and mind.
“Siraj is struggling with form. He needs to rest his body as well as his mind. He looks tired. When a bowler is struggling for form, the best thing to do is give him rest,” stated Harbhajan, emphasizing the importance of managing a player’s workload and mental well-being.
Impact on RCB’s Performance
Siraj’s lack of form has been a contributing factor to RCB’s disappointing season, with the team winning just one out of six matches and currently occupying the second-last spot in the IPL 2024 standings. Despite posting a challenging total of 196/8 against Mumbai Indians in their recent encounter, RCB’s bowling unit failed to contain the opposition’s batsmen, resulting in another defeat.
During the match against Mumbai Indians, Siraj bowled three wicket-less overs, conceding 37 runs, further highlighting his struggles on the field.
Harbhajan’s Concerns and RCB’s Bowling Woes
Expressing his concerns over RCB’s bowling attack, Harbhajan questioned the team’s ability to secure victories without a strong bowling lineup. “I can’t understand how RCB will win if they don’t have good bowling. They have batters, but it doesn’t matter because no matter how many runs they put on the board, it always seems insufficient,” remarked Harbhajan, underscoring the significance of a balanced team composition.
In the recent clash against Mumbai Indians, despite RCB’s commendable batting performance, featuring notable contributions from Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, MI’s aggressive batting display ensured a swift victory. The trio’s explosive batting led MI to chase down RCB’s target of 196/8 in just 15.3 overs, further amplifying the challenges faced by RCB’s bowling unit.
